In the 1980s, Greyston pioneered the concept of affordable permanent housing for homeless individuals, combined with on-site tenant services. Issan House is a 35-unit facility offering housing to 40–to–50 formerly homeless individuals annually. All residents are living with HIV/AIDS, and many also are struggling with mental health issues and substance abuse.

Issan House Apartment Furniture & Fitout
Yonkers, New York

greyston-foundation
The adaptive reuse of the historic convent. The eight different room layouts offered a variety of living quarters and demanded that the furniture be designed to permit flexibility in placement. Given the apartment’s limited living space, the goal was also to de-emphasize the appearance of the bed as a bed, striving for a non-institutional look.
