Art, Urbanism & The Environment

ILAUD

ILAUD, the International Laboratory of Architecture and Urban Design, was founded by Giancarlo De Carlo in 1974. The new ‘Laboratory’ concerned itself with the transformation of the physical environment; it sought to promote research into new methods and techniques of design and to foster contacts and cultural exchanges between teachers and students in different countries and at different universities.

I was fortunate to be selected as a member of the MIT team to participate at ILAUD during the summer of 1988. It was like being part of a community of smart and dedicated students, academics, and architects immersed in contemporary issues of urbanism, exploring solutions through the design process.
